The Millburn High School Wind Ensemble is a select curricular ensemble comprised of accelerated level band students grades nine through twelve. Students are selected by audition and perform in the winter and spring band concerts. Additional evening rehearsals and performances may be scheduled. This ensemble performs standard advanced wind literature and newer works. Students will be challenged musically, are encouraged to audition for region ensembles, and expected to study their instrument privately outside of the scope of the school day.
The Wind Ensemble has commissioned and premiered works by Bruce Yurko, Augusta Read Thomas, and Dana Wilson, and worked with artists including Dr. Mark Davis Scatterday, Dr. Andrew Boysen, Jr., Bruce Yurko, Samuel R. Hazo, Dr. Thomas McCauley, Christian Jaudes, and The Dallas Brass. The ensemble has received superior ratings at festivals, positive comments from many notable conductors and composers, and the Citation of Excellence Award from the National Band Association. The ensemble received a Gold rating at the Region I Concert Band Festival and represented North Jersey Region I at the New Jersey Concert Band Gala. The Wind Ensemble performed in Carnegie Hall, at the Roxbury High School Wind Band Invitational, and with The Dallas Brass.
